Calum Hughes
Calum Hughes is an experienced actor, performer, presenter, writer, host and leader. His acting career has so far taken place primarily across New Zealand with some international forays. He studied Theatre, English and History at the University of Waikato where he specialised in Shakespeare and Creative Writing. Shakespeare took Calum on multiple national tours including as a part of the The Ugly Shakespeare Company where he played 8 roles in over 100 performances of 2 plays in 80+ schools across New Zealand over a 4 month tour and the NZ Young Shakespeare Company which performed and studied in Wellington, Dunedin and The Globe Theatre for a month in London. Through his time in education Calum took part in Greek, Contemporary, Brechtian, Absurdist, Devised, Verbatim, Self-Written, Self-Directed, Physical, Improvised, Elizabethan, Musical, and Children's Theatre as well as short films, filmed skits, and productions for social media content. He has performed in excess of 60 theatrical productions, is an experienced director and producer of theatre, has been a tutor and educator for young actors and writes and produces original songs as a singer and rapper accompanied by the ukulele and guitar. More recently he has focussed on creating videos for social media, stand-up comedy and hosting events. He has MC’d weddings and similar and been the host of over 100 pub quizzes in public and corporate situations. Moving forward Calum is seeking more opportunities to tell stories and entertain people in whatever form that may take.
